Graduate admissions

GGE offers graduate programs in three different areas

  • Master and PhD in Geology
  • Master and PhD in Geological Engineering
  • Master and PhD in Hydrology and Computational Hydroscience

We are looking for a strong academic background in the engineering sciences or related fields.

An overall B average in undergraduate course work taken at Ole Miss or other approved colleges is required. In unusual cases the rule may be waived with the approval of the appropriate department chair and the dean of the School of Engineering.

Program for Accelerated Advanced Degrees (PAAD)

MS in Geology and MS in Geological Engineering are part of the Program for Accelerated Advanced Degrees (PAAD) through the Graduate School.

How does this work?

  • PAAD allows an undergraduate in Geology or Geological Engineering to enroll in up to 12 graduate hours and receive graduate credit for those courses while an undergraduate student.
  • The undergraduate MUST be approved by the Gradate School to enroll in the courses BEFORE the semester begins.
  • Only specific courses will count toward both degrees, so check the approved list.
  • Upon graduation with BS degree, students apply to the Graduate School and complete their graduate degree as usual but will effectively be 1 year closer to completion.
